During our last jaunt up to the Netherlands, we searched for everything tulip, and we discovered the Zwarte Tulp Museum—a must-see of celebrating one of the most iconic of all things Dutch.

What to See at the Zwarte Tulp Museum

With two full floors of tulips, we were in flower heaven as we explored the museum. We started on the main floor, where you have a film to get you started. It’s in a drawing room that is famous for its beautiful glass vases, called Hyacinth glass vases.

Further along, there is an art gallery with all kinds of beautiful tulip paintings, sculptures, collages, and even cut paper. Many of them were also done by kids.

The second floor was more about the history and the cultural impact that tulips have had on the Dutch. There was a timeline, many old artifacts, and an explanation about the business of selling tulip bulbs all over the world.

Opening Hours: Closed Mondays. Tuesdays-Thursdays 1:00-5:00, Friday-Sunday 11:00 – 5:00

Cost: Adults – 10 Euros, Children 15-18 5 Euros, 14 and under FREE!

Time needed: Depending on much you read, I would say one hour minimum.

We gave the Zwarte Tulp a four-star rating. It’s a great place to find out more about the famous Dutch flower, with really interesting displays. And since it’s free for kids, it’s a nice cheap educational activity.
