Traveling in Africa Best Places to Visit

Traveling in Africa is a once in a lifetime experience. Our guide tells you many of the best places to visit in all of Africa!

Africa is for us one of those places that is so large, the 2nd largest continent in the world, that we just can’t even grasp its size and diversity. It’s so different than what we are used to that we can’ t help but go over and over again.

We have been to a few places in northern Africa and a few in southern Africa and some of the island countries. They are all vastly different from each other  Everything from the landscape, to the climate, people, food, wildlife is different, and of course there is no comparison with the other large continents like Europe or North America.

We have not explored near enough of this continent and want to do so much more in the future.  For me, growing up in an American family all I really knew about Africa before traveling there was that they had lions and tigers and…giraffes!  Oh my!

From the time that I could express my wishes I’ve wanted to go on safari.  Jim and I finally took the plunge a few years ago and it definitely ranks up there as one of the most amazing and memorable trips that we’ve taken, so we couldn’t wait to do it again.

Traveling in Africa Best Places to Visit

Botswana

Botswana is one of my all-time favorite countries. There are so many animals that's it's easy to find what you are looking for. A safari in this amazing country is a trip of a lifetime.

Egypt

Egypt was the first country we visited in Africa. We were lucky, because Jim's sister was living there at the time. She really gave us some local insight and advice. We loved everything from Cairo to Abu Simbel.

Madagascar

One of the main reasons for us to go to Madagascar was the unique wildlife. We were thrilled to see lemurs, chameleons, and believe it or not, plenty of snakes. We found two weeks in the tropical country to be just right, and we really enjoyed every minute of our road trip.

Mauritius

A tropical island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, what could be better? Little did we know before visiting how rewarding a trip to Mauritius could be. Lots of culture, fantastic sites, great museums, and tasty foods awaited us, along with those stunning beaches and relaxing resorts. I can't wait to go again.

Morocco

Morocco is one of those countries that is very good at marketing itself. Well, why wouldn't it be? It's gorgeous with exotic scenes of confusing souks, amazing colorful mosaic tilings, people offering the sweetest tea, Roman ruins, and so much more, you can't help but want to go there. Let me tell, Morocco does not disappoint.

Namibia

From the little time we spent in Namibia, we loved it. We enjoyed a couple of game drives, slept in the coolest treehouse, and started planning our return!

South Africa

Capetown, Boulder's Beach, Robben Island, Johannesburg. We only scratched the surface on our first trip to South Africa, but we really felt that we got to know it and love it.

Tunisia

A little off the tourist trail, Tunisia has so much to offer. From the very first day exploring one of the best museums in the world, to beaches, and souks, and gorgeous landscapes, we were surprised and delighted at every turn. We really took advantage of some cool activities, and for us that always makes the trip.

Uganda

Really needing a safari fix, we decided to try Uganda. We were amazed at how many, well-run, parks there were to explore. Doing another self-drive, we were able to see and do what we pleased. We really recommend it.

Zambia

Zambia will always hold a special place in our heart, because it was the first place that we went on safari. It didn't take love for us to fall in love with them, the guides, the animals, the lodges. And then you add in an amazing sight like Victoria Falls. What a place!
