Reflection #607 – Xian Mosque, China

Xian is by far my favorite city in China.

Now please understand, it is a huge country. China. Huge.

After decades of reading historical fiction and war novels, I just couldn’t wait to go to China.

On my very first trip there, I went with only my two teenage daughters and some notes. The two places you must go are Beijing and Xian. So that is where we went. We spent four days in each, which wasn’t sufficient Beijing, but definitely was for Xian.

I think I always love the smaller, backwater places more than the glitzy cities. When we arrived in Xian, it was dusty and hot and our taxi driver could not find the hotel, but he tried hard and didn’t overcharge me.

Xian really exhibited the diversity of the country. I loved the Muslim section and this gorgeous old mosque. It was so serene and gorgeous.

Have you been to Xian? What did you do there and what did you think?
