Reflection #533 – The Fertile Nile River, Egypt

Nile Egypt

In elementary school, you learn that the Nile River flooded every year during the time of the Pharaohs, and that is what kept them so rich. Nowadays, thanks to modern technology and a few dams, the Nile does not flood and recede as much because it is regulated.

What the Nile does is shown so perfectly in this shot. You can see the layers of civilization which follows the water. At the top of the photo, you see desert, then a few houses with no green, then a band of green, the banks of the river, and the river itself. These bands are repeated on the other side of the river as well. I was mesmerized by this scene. I just love it. Maybe that’s the teacher side of me.

Have you been to Egypt and ridden up or down the Nile? What a river! Am I right? Tell us about your experiences on the Nile in the comment section below.
