While in India, Jim and I took one of the Kerala backwater boat tours, and I have to say, we loved it! I mean who wouldn’t love floating down a river with the most interesting sights to see along the way and meanwhile the wait staff is providing you with delicious food and drink, not to mention that your bedroom is luxurious.

We lounged, gawked, and ate our way through three days of floating through the brackish water. We started and ended our trip in Allepey, and we marveled at how life is on and around the water.

As you know, one of my favorite things to photograph is laundry. This lady caught my eye early on the first morning. She flung and beat, flung and beat that shirt into total cleanliness. We also saw people going through their morning ablutions, delivering goods, herding ducks, taking a bus boat to work, school kids, temples, beautiful palm trees, and so much more.

I have no idea how fast the boat was moving, but slowly. Slow enough that it didn’t feel that we were intruding on the people, making waves, so to speak. We also docked the boat numerous times to take a walk here and there, to visit a small market or a temple; we weren’t on the boat the entire time.

Our Kerala Tour lasted for two nights, and I think it was the perfect amount of time to unplug and unwind!

I would have to say, it was one of my most relaxing, yet fascinating, trips I’ve ever taken. If you get a chance to take a Kerala Tour, I urge you to do it! Fantastic!

Kerala was one of our favorite places we’ve visited in India, and we really enjoyed the Kerala boat tour. Have you been?
