Kazungula Ferry Crossing to Botswana

Plenty of folks waiting for the ferry to cross the Zambezi River from Zambia to Botswana.

Ferry Botswana

I love this scene of the Kazungula Ferry. We were in Zambia visiting Victoria Falls, and were then renting a truck to drive through Botswana on a self-drive safari.

We crossed the river on a hired boat, but I think the ferry looks like it was a lot of fun as well.

Everywhere we went, it seemed lots of locals were trying to get somewhere. Many times we were asked for rides or jockeying for position on the ferries and roads.

Traveling, and especially driving, in southern Africa was a real adventure. We loved it!

  1. OMG – this is so funny. We also saw similar scenes when crossing over at the same crossing from Zambia to Botswana, and then to Namibia, to board the “Zambezi Queen” riverboat. Sadly, we’ve heard that sometimes those rickety “ferries” topple over with the weight of the trucks. Truck drivers also often have to wait for weeks to cross over, because it’s so slow. They really need to build a bridge (which we hear is in the works).
