Have you heard of a German Easter Market? German Easter markets are unique. Artists decorate eggs in more ways than you can imagine, and the best part, they’re for sale.
I’m not a big shopper, so when my sister Ernestine asked us to go with her to an Easter market, I really wasn’t expecting too much. Boy, was I surprised. It was a market where you could buy the eggs, but I felt it was much, much more.

Easter Markets
Spring in Germany can be a bit cold, windy, and definitely rainy, so it’s important to get out and do things or you’ll go crazy. Take it from me.

Luckily the Germans celebrate Easter in a big way. First there are the beautiful Easter Fountains, or Osterbrunnen. Mainly found in Franconia, the town’s water fountain is decorated with painted eggs and greenery. They’re elaborate and fun to find.
Then there’s the Easter markets. Everyone has heard of the magical Christmas markets, but I think that the Easter markets go a bit under the radar. They were for me.

So, what is an Easter Market? As you can imagine, it’s a market for buying Easter…things. Well, to be honest, this is primarily decorated eggs. There are a few other products on offer, depending on where you are, but it’s really all about the egg!
Decorated Easter Eggs
I was gob-smacked at how many ways there is to decorate an egg. From painting to cut paper, the artistry that goes into these eggs is nothing short of spectacular.

Kloster Eberbach
One of the places that holds a fantastic Easter market each year is Kloster Eberbach. The monastery, itself, is worth a visit. There’s always some type of program going on there, but even if there isn’t the grounds are gorgeous, and you can grab something to eat, or taste some wine, after you tour the site.
Address: 65346 Eltville am Rhein
Our Rating

The Kloster Eberbach Easter Market is a full five stars. For a non-shopper, I’m still planning on making it an annual trip. There’s so much to see, and of course, buy.
Conclusion
Take a ride up to Kloster Eberbach and enjoy their annual Easter Market. Entry costs about 8 Euro, but I believe it’s very worth it.
