The hardest question to answer when you are an avid traveler is, “Where is your favorite place?” The short answer always is , “I don’t have one!” However, there definitely are locations that stick in our minds, sometime because of how wonderful it was, sometimes because the people were so friendly, sometimes because we loved […]
All we hear about growing up in the United States is the Vietnam War, where our fathers fought. My father did, and I sat in front of the black and white screen of our t.v. watching Walter Cronkite every night waiting for him to mention my dad. He never did, thankfully.
I’ve completely outgrown buying souvenirs every place I go. Now don’t get me wrong, I love seeing all the locally handmade items, especially textiles and sometimes it takes a very strong will to say no. But I do say no, because I really want to be a minimalist. Why? To be honest I hate to dust. […]
The road-trippers that we are, one of the things we wanted to do while in Georgia was to drive the famous “military road” with a length of 212 kilometers that spans the entire country of Georgia. It has been a popular highway in some form or another for thousands of years due to its strategic and economic […]
I have to admit, when Corinne first came up with the idea of going to Georgia I was a bit hesitant. I don’t know what it was but for some reason I just wasn’t comfortable with the safety and security issues in the region. There had been a civil war in the country in the […]
Close to the Iraqi Border, İshak Paşa Sarayı is Truly on the Edge Pashas, sultans, belly dancers, Scheherazade, and visions of 1001 Arabian Nights danced in my head as we headed to this palace in the farthest reaches of Eastern Turkey. One day we were on a road trip in Eastern Turkey and we had the most amazing experience. This was an experience that we could never have planned or would have ever expected to have, one that will stay with me forever and ever. Sheep, Sheep, and more Sheep!
Living in Japan all this time has really changed me at my core, especially if you subscribe to the idea of “you are what you eat.” I’m sure if you asked me when I was twenty if I would eat fish eggs, cold noodles, whole baby octopus, raw anemone, or even seaweed the answer would […]
Kizkalesi – A Mediterranean Paradise! One of our favorite places in Turkey is a small Mediterranean town called Kizkalesi. We have been several times, in summer and fall, and we’re always amazed with the weather. In the summer it isn’t too hot and in the fall it isn’t too cool. The water temperature always feels perfect!
You can visit some amazing sites in the small country of Armenia, like this park filled with Armenian script letters, but getting to them can be a little difficult. We found the best way to visit this amazing country was by car. This is our final installation on our Armenia Road Trip series. This last […]
After our Geghard and Garni jaunt, and just a couple of hours up the road, we were hoping to find a good place for lunch and then make a decision whether or not to continue on to Tbilisi or spend the night. We drove into the small city of Sevan and it was pretty deserted. […]
