This photo was taken in the Banaue Rice Terraces in the Philippines. Walking along those mountain ridges and valleys, admiring the rice paddies, and talking to our guide I examined another way of living, and that group of moments, of discovery is why I travel. Yes, I love the glitzy cities with their flashy museums, cafes, and shopping centers, but even though the food and history are different, there’s a measure of sameness I find in cities. I go out to the countryside to meet the people, to ask questions, to see a true vision of the local culture.
How about you? What part of traveling do you find the most illuminating or the most motivational?
