Golden Temple of Dambulla – UNESCO World Heritage Site

This photo is at the entrance to the Golden Temple of Dambulla. As you can see there are plenty of steps to climb to get to the actual temple. This is a requirement, apparently, in Sri Lanka, because there is no way you are going to get away with not doing lots of climbing.

This temple was by far one of my favorite things to do in the country. It’s a gorgeous white edifice built right up alongside and under the rock wall of the cliff, and part of the temple is in the cave. There are plenty of Buddha statues, most sitting, and one really big reclining Buddha.

Golden Temple of Dambulla.

Have you been to Sri Lanka? The Golden Temple of Dambulla?

I'm sure you would love Sri Lanka. It's beautiful, not unlike the Chennai area. Thanks for your comment, Charu.

If I could fly to somewhere new tomorrow (and someone else was buying the tickets...), I'd pick Sri Lanka, hands down, no questions asked. It looks like such a beautiful, vibrant country. I can't even fathom seeing this in real life!
