Our entire family are Disney fans. For the older generation, Jim’s siblings, I think it’s because they grew up in California and going to Disneyland every year was a highlight for them. For our children, they grew up watching Disney movies like the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. They know all the songs, all the dialogue, and are always on the lookout for new Disney. Because of this, we make it a point to go to every Disney park. Yes, we’ve been to Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Yes, we plan to go to Shanghai when that one [...]

One thing about a far-flung family is I get to visit all over the U.S. when completing my rounds. We drove from Tacoma to Stephensville, Montana to visit my mother-in-law.
Montana is a beautiful state, and one of my favorite pastimes is to take photos of all of the barns and wide landscapes as we drive along the interminable stretches of highway.
On one of these drives, we took a dirt road over some mountain to reach Philipsburg. Jim’s mother had told us about a place where we could look for sapphires, and we were all ramped up to do some [...]

Old Milwaukee Cafe on the corner of 6th and Cedar, downtown Tacoma.
Old Milwaukee Cafe and Dessert Company is located in downtown Tacoma, Washington. Go there for the amazing breakfast options. You won’t be disappointed–unless you can’t get a seat.
If you ever watched Seinfeld and the “Soup Nazi” episodes, you could have a similar experience, but only for breakfast. The very small cafe (8 tables) is run by a couple of Washingtonians. Pat runs the dining room, taking orders and keeping track of who is waiting outside. She can be a little grumpy! There are rules in this [...]

Ok, so it wasn’t a real duck, and I’m definitely not the only one, if you go by the crowds that were in Seattle on that sunny day, but it was a blast! And, I can add it to my “modes of transporation” list. Woo hoo!
The ducks are WWII amphibious craft that are glorified bus tours that don’t just drive the streets, but also can go in water. Even though I’m not a “tour” person per se, this type of activity always appeals to me, because hey- it’s fun!
So the bus – um, duck, looks like a flat [...]

A week of Oklahoma goodness had ended, and I was waving my hat and saying “Adios” to the Sooner state. We headed down the road a mite, to Ft. Worth, Texas for me to catch my plane. We had some time to kill, and still wanted to see some real stockyards, so silly us we went to Ft. Worth Stockyard City. Yes, they had cows. Yes, they had cowboys. Yes, it was primarily for tourists.
We did get to finally do a real maze. What they’ve done is turn an old stock corral into a maze where you have to [...]
