One of best parts of traveling is getting to meet and have interactions with the people in the countries we are visiting. We are not traveling just to see the world, we want to live the world. Who couldn’t use some sun? This is Flores Island in the Indonesia and everytime I look at this photo it reminds me how Jim and I went snorkeling not far from here when a school of flying fish skimmed our backs! Too much fun! Oh where or where is the sun?
Spring is one of the best times to go to the Banaue rice terraces in the Philippines. The rice plants sport that bright new green and the terracing is beautiful. It’s still hot, though. It’s an oppressive hot. I didn’t like that part. The sun beating down while we climbed out of them. Let’s just say it took us awhile.

Well, I love hand-made products. Everyday items like brooms, baskets, mats, rugs, really everything is so much nicer when it’s handmade. I think we’ve lost so much of that in the U.S. It’s cheaper and more convenient to head to a super-store for all of our needs. Oh, I’m definitely guilty, too. I just think it’s a shame in some respects as well.
If you have visited the Philippines you have no doubt heard of Balut. It is a nearly developed duck fetus that is boiled and eaten out of the shell. I wanted to try one, but really had no idea about how to go about obtaining one. That problem was taken care of one day when we were waiting at the bus station for a tour bus to pick us up. I don’t really understand why this jellyfish looks so inviting. It had been washed up close to the shore on Princesa Island in the Philippines. I could reach out and touch it if I wanted to. I’m pretty sure I would have regretted it, if I did. Why would something so beautiful be so dangerous?
