Burning off a rice field in Bali, Indonesia.
I don’t know what it is about farms, fields, agriculture in general, but I love to photograph people working. It’s a constant no matter where we go. I will stop for tractors, hoeing animals, scythes, and in this case smoke from burning the old matter so that the field can be planted again.
It must be the teacher in me that loves to see and experience everything that a person reads about, such as the life cycle of rice. Fascinating, isn’t it?
Tanah Lot is a Balinese temple that is situated on a natural rock formation. In the rock, you can see how the water has eroded it to its unique shape.
The original temple was built there during the 15th century. It is still a major pilgrimage site, and plenty of tourists go there as well.
If you choose to visit this temple, you will need transporatation as it is about 20 kilometers from Denpasar. Many people rent motor-scooters on the island. We rented a car, which featured the added bonus of air-conditioning.

So last week on portrait day, I posted my oldest daughter’s photo and this week it’s my youngest daughter’s turn. Here she is in Bali, Indonesia at the orchid garden. Bali is the ultimate place to just go, relax, experience a culture that is different than ours, and just rejuvenate. I love this shot! I took it on the island of Bali. If you’ve been there then you know that it is well-known for its gorgeous art. There are so many art stores where the artist is the owner. Here a young child is practicing his art. I’m sure that is how they get to be so good, practice. I never saw a parent, and the boy never looked up from his concentration.
This is one of my favorite shots of my lifetime. We were wandering around the orchid gardens on Bali stumbled upon this wise and patient fellow. Have you ever taken a photo of an animal that is exhibiting human traits?
Bali, Indonesia is one of those places you go to unwind. There are many temples to visit on Bali, and it seems that each time you walk into one, it can bring a peacefulness to you. Each detail helps to calm your senses and bring about an inner peace. This beautiful bloom was floating in a small pool, and it brings back to me the feeling that I would get in those Balinese temples.
