Angkor Wat, Cambodia. The name makes travelers drool! And drool they should! What a temple, or temples.
We visited Angkor Wat during the end of December, and a more perfect time just couldn’t be had.
We templed, and templed, and templed to our hearts content. And, yes, there were plenty of other tourists there. There always is, but it wasn’t too difficult to wait them out and get some great shots.

Another face? Angkor Wat is full of faces, more than you ever would expect. It feels very “Big Brother-ish,” but in a charming way. The temple grounds are huge and there are so many things to see, that you want to take your time and buy the 3 day pass.
On the huge Tongle Sap lake in Cambodia, it’s fascinating to see people living on the water. You wonder how often they go ashore when everything they need is right there, including a school. Pictured is a grandpa and his granddaughter cleaning the day’s catch of tiny silvery fish.
After wandering around the ruins of Angkor Wat, it seems rather customary to visit Lake Tonle Sap. This is the largest lake in the country and on our boat we visited many of the Vietnamese tribespeople who live on the water. They basically live on what we would call a house boat or house city. As you float around the area, you can witness what everday life if like for these hardy people. And yes, like the portrait of this dog, there are plenty of animals. Everywhere we went in southeast Asia, vendors were selling cut sugar cane with a sweet sticky rice in the center. It was delicious. We were tuk tuking through a village near Angkor Wat in Cambodia when we stopped to watch this husband and wife preparing the snack to be sold.
We’ve all been struggling with the price of gas over the last few years. In Cambodia, their answer is to buy it and resell it themselves from soda bottles. When our tuk tuk pulled up to a stand of shelves of various colors in questionable looking bottles, I was hoping he wasn’t stopping to offer us a refreshment. He wasn’t. He was getting gas, telling us how the price of gas has gotten out of hand and it prevents anyone from driving.
